Cambodia Primary Education Initiative
Young Cambodians currently face major systemic obstacles to attaining a solid primary education. Essentially, many potential students and their families must choose between work and school. If they choose education, families not only forfeit additional income, but they also must bear the potentially greater burden of the costs associated with attending school – transportation, pocket money, and supplementary materials and tutoring. These are all enormous costs in a nation where an estimated half of the population lives in poverty.
Additional challenges to educational progress are the inadequate preparation and under-compensation of teachers, as well as a steady decline in female representation at higher levels of education.
This is why Blue Skies Development is building an accessible, affordable, and quality primary school in the Toul Roka village of Kampong Cham Province, Cambodia.
